Project code: JKI-ZR-08-5171
Contract period: 01.07.2012 - 31.12.2014
Purpose of research: Applied research

The JKI Institute for Grapevine Breeding Geilweilerhof is breeding grapevine varieties with resistance to fungal pathogens and employs genetic fingerprints for early diagnosis of pathogen resistance. It disposes of several genotypes with simple and combined resistance against powdery mildew as well as against downy mildew. JKI will identify candidate genes for resistance in genomic regions of `Regent´ and `Solaris´, where resistance loci for Plasmopara viticola (Rpv3 and Rpv10) have been identified. A segregating population (Gf.Ga-52-42 x `Solaris´) has progeny carrying both resistance loci either separately or in combination. Comparative transcriptome studies employing RNA-Seq technology in different genotypes of this population including the parentals should exhibit differential gene expression after controlled inoculations. This will depend on the genetic background and yield further candidate genes of plant resistance.
