Characterization of introgression lines (IL) of barley with Hordeum bulbosum chromatin
Project
Project code: JKI-ZL-08-3188
Contract period: 01.01.2014
- 31.10.2019
Purpose of research: Applied research
A fertile Hordeum bulbosum × H. vulgare interspecific hybrid has been used to develop introgression lines (ILs) by selfing and/or backcrossing to two- and six-rowed spring and winter barleys. The introgressed H. bulbosum chromatin was identified and localized via genomic in situ hybridisation (GISH) in combination with chromosome-specific probes from H. vulgare (FISH). The main objective of this project is to assess the characters of the ILs, with a focus on disease resistance. Trials will be carried out in the rain-out shelter to get information about phenotypic effects of introgressed H. bulbosum chromosomal segments. This involves investigation of plant height, heading dates, grain yield and thousand-grain weight in comparison to the H. vulgare parent.
