Collaborative project: Eco-friendly Seed Treatment with new and cost efficient Electron Treatment Modules (ResaatEl) - Subproject 1

Project

Project code: 2815405110
Contract period: 01.10.2013 - 30.04.2017
Budget: 1,621,359 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

Electron treatment of seed is an alternative ecological solution in comparison to chemical seed dressing. The project will open the door to the market for this technology and widen the user forum. Based on a new and cost efficient electron source an electron treatment system for cereals and other seed should be developed. Building a demonstrator equipment and investigation of the treatment principles are main parts of the program. The development of total new modular and flexible assembled seed treatment lines is based on this demonstrator system and allows a fine tuned adaptation to seed types and the local agricultural conditions. At the beginning a laboratory equipment with a new electron source should be constructed in order to be able to investigate the treatment parameters in different seed treatment experiments. Using technical infected seed the treatment efficiency will be investigated as well as the germination rate of seed after treatment. Based on the laboratory results a scaled-up demonstrator equipment will be built to demonstrate the potential of the new technology. The last part of the program contains extensive field tests to verify the treatment success under real agricultural conditions.
