Digitalisation of the German Nematode Collection for improved use regarding nematode occurrence and comparative ecological studies

Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
Plant-parasitic nematodes are important plant pathogens but also play a significant role in the agro-ecosystem. Permanent slides of plant-parasitic nematodes are stored in the German Nematode Collection. New findings are continuously added. Overall, the collection serves as reference for diagnostic purpose and the description of new species. For comparative studies on the occurrence and ecology of plant-parasitic nematodes the currently hand-written information on cards need to be digitalised. Within this respect, findings from over 5000 samples within the past 50 years will be first transferred into Excel to finally allow conversion in existing databases (e.g. Edaphobase).
