Project code: JKI-ZR-08-5159
Contract period: 01.01.2007 - 31.12.2011
Purpose of research: Basic research

Genetic mapping studies and their combination with resistance trait scores in QTL analyses identified major regions of factors for resistance to powdery mildew (Erysiphe necator) in the resistant cultivar `Regent´, the resistant breeding line Gf.Ga-47-42 and the resistant old French cv `Villard blanc´. These genomic regions include markers for functional genes and so-called resistance gene analogs. Parallel studies of physical mapping of the major resistance QTL in `Regent´ (cf. 5133) aim to identify the genes associated to the major QTL region of `Regent´ by sequence analysis. Resulting sequences are compared to knowledge from scientific literature to identify candidates for resistance. The relevance of these candidate genes for the phenotype of resistance is being characterized through investigation of their expression patterns.
