Collaborative projekt: Development of a breeding planning and mating system using additional genomic data - subproject 2 (gBAP)

Project

Project code: 2817200213
Contract period: 05.09.2014 - 31.08.2017
Budget: 22,758 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development

The aim of the gBAP project is the development of a web-based mating program for genotyped top cows and bulls. In the project, new genetic information will be derived from existing data (including genetic defects, positive genetic characteristics, variability of offspring groups), which can then be used in the mating program. Thus, the breeding progress, in which all milk producers participate, increased. The main results are the development of a functional genomic mating program with particular attention to: - Breeding progress in the traits fertility, longevity & health - Improved animal welfare, by breeding for polled and less genetic defects - Prevention of mating of carriers of recessive genetic defects and haplotypes with significant negative impact on animal health - Avoiding the narrowing of genetic variability by avoiding inbreeding - Enrichment of positive gene variants (beta casein) with nutritional benefits - Increasing competitiveness
