Project
Project code: 2812NA110
Contract period: 01.09.2014
- 31.01.2017
Budget: 191,069 Euro
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
The „Systemanalyse der Schaf- und Ziegenmilchproduktion in Deutschland“ has been realized within 2,5 years by Bioland Beratung GmbH in cooperation with BAT Beratung Artgerechte Tierhaltung e.V. and Thünen-Institut für Ökologischen Landbau. Aim of the project was the accumulation of data and knowledge about the sheep and goat milk production in Germany. Production processes and factors on farms as well as information about the players in the processing and marketing sector were to be recorded. The collected data were thought to be the basis for an analysis of the sector-specific need for action and the identification of necessary steps of development for the sector.
Through intense research, written or telephone surveys among 290 farms and physical visits on 78 farms, it was possible to set up a detailed production overview (quantity and processes) for the first time (reference year 2014).
Among the processing undertakings, ten were willing to participate in a written survey, three took part in interviews. Surveying trading companies was way more difficult, though it was possible to gain some written answers. Thus the assessment of commodity flows and market potential was possible at least to some extent.
