Project code: BfR-PRS-08-1322-630
Contract period: 01.04.2015 - 31.12.2017
Purpose of research: Applied research

Currently, single active substance ingredients are toxicologically evaluated. The Plant Protection Product (PPP) and biozides however are only tested for acute toxicity as well as for irritation of the skin and eyes. The current regulatory law instructs for testing of potential harmful mixture effects but only when adequate methods are available. Additionally, in several published studies increased toxicity of PPP compared to the active substance has been observed, giving rise to the question of adequate consumer and operator protection. Since the evaluation of PPP or biozides analog to the active substances would go along with a severe increase of animal studies, the goal of this project is the development of an in vitro screening system to test for increased toxic effects of PPP and biozides compared to the active substance ingredients.
