Purpose of research: Applied research

The increasing importance of maize leads to an enrichment of the soil borne malicious pathogen Rhizoctonia solani, particularly in cultivation as a rotation from sugar beet. The susceptibility of maize against Rhizoctonia solani leads to a proliferation of infectious fungal material in the ground and caused an infestation of the beets. In sugar beet, the disease leads to dumping off in the youth stage or subsequently to the late root rot. In addition to yield losses, internal quality parameters such as sugar, sugar yield, and net income of sugar (BZE) be adversely affected by the infestation of the beet body. Partially heavily infested beets cannot be processed. A setting of sugar beet production in infested areas would result in permanently. It is the objective of integrated control of Rhizoctonia solani under combination of genetically fixed variety resistance in conjunction with fungicidal seed treatment for sugar beet cultivation to develop procedures in the planned project. In particular, the sensitivity of Rhizoctonia solani isolates compared with fungicidal active ingredients and their change over time; taking into account the resistance of type of has a decisive influence on the potential substances and their optimized application by new spray technique methods of seed treatment. These new results could be used to develop integrated strategies to control the harmful pathogen Rhizoctonia solani in sugar beet and other crops and also to prevent resistance of the fungi.
