Project code: JKI-GF-08-1173
Contract period: 01.08.2014 - 31.07.2017
Purpose of research: Applied research

The potential effect of risk mitigation measures (RMMs) on non-target wildlife is studied. Aims are to 1) assess the impact of indoor only application of an anticoagulant rodenticidal product for Norway rat management on non-target small mammals, 2) the effects of RMMs on foxes and the fate of poisoned Norway rats during a baiting campaign.

Anticoagulant rodenticides (AR) are important agents in biocidal pest rodent control, but could affect non-target animals negatively. Project aims are to test the impact of restricting ARs to indoor application on AR residues in non-target small mammals, the effect of current RMMs on rural wildlife, to study the fate of poisoned Norway rats during rat control as well as to optimize bait boxes for Norway rat control.
