Project code: BfR-BIOS-08-1322-583
Contract period: 01.03.2014 - 31.12.2015
Purpose of research: Applied research

In European Member States, each slaughtered domestic swine and all animals susceptible for Trichinella infection and intended for human consumption must be sampled and examined for Trichinella spp. All positive samples should be forwarded to a National Reference Laboratory or the Community Reference Laboratory for the determination of the Trichinella species involved. Currently, a multiplex PCR and RFLP are used for species identification at the NRL Trichinella. In this project a MALDI-TOF technique was established and validated as an alternative method for the identification of the Trichinella species found in Europe.
