Project code: JKI-RS-08-3365
Contract period: 01.10.2007 - 31.12.2010
Purpose of research: Basic research

Rapeseed is the most important oil-producing plant in Europe and the second most important world wide after soy bean. Predicted climate change in Northern Germany such as extended drought in summer term can alter yield and quality. The aim of this examination is to get data about the influence of drought stress on nutritive and antinutritive substances of rapeseed for several years. Competitive ability is affected by dual use of oil and protein for the production of high-quality feedstuff. Because of high values of antinutritive substances (tannins, phytates and sinapine) application area of rapeseed meal is restricted and enhancement of meal and protein quality for feed and food purposes is of increasing importance. The received data are used simultaneously for development of NIRS calibration. The project is directed at adaptation of cultivated plants to modified environmental conditions and utilisation of genetic resources for breeding improvement as a part of the policy of careful management of nature and resources in agriculture.
