BayKlimaFit: Strategies for the adaptation of crop plants to the climate change. Subproject 3: Tolerance for waterlogging and flooding of rapeseed plants
Project
Project code: keine Angabe
Contract period: 01.02.2016
- 31.01.2019
Purpose of research: Applied research
In agriculture, rapeseed is not farmed on fields threatened with flooding. These days a proper drainage of the crop land as well as sophisticated cultivation methods are applied. In case of flooding caused by thawing periods or heavy rain, farmers have to deal with harvest losses. This project will answer the question, what the genetic reasons for the sensitivity of rapeseed to flooding are and how large the band width of this sensitivity is for the varieties of European rapeseed. The study is going to investigate whether the adaptation of rapeseed to increasing heavy rainfall events can be improved through breeding.
