Studies in European countries display frequently contamination of oats with mycotoxins deoxinivalenol (DON) and T-2 and HT-2. Within this joint project, Fusarium species in oat samples from Germany will be analysed and methodical questions related to resistance against different Fusarium species will be studied.

In the project an oat panel was inoculated with F. culmorum (FC), F. langsethiae (FL), F. sporotrichioides (FSP) and a mixture of FC and FSP, respectively, and phenotyped for relevant traits under six environments. Significant genotypic effects for DON and T-2 accumulation were found, whereby toxin content and pl ant height were negatively correlated. Results indicate the existence of common as well as specific resistance QTLs against FC and FSP. Plants infected by FC showed significantly reduced grain weights and increased hull contents. There was only weak correlation of the extent of anther retention and toxin contents.
