High resolution mapping of leaf rust resistance gene from barley landrace MBR1012
Project
Project code: JKI-RS-08-3404
Contract period: 01.06.2015
- 31.05.2018
Purpose of research: Applied research
Leaf rust caused by Puccinia hordei leads to considerable yield losses in barley. A new resistance has been detected in the Serbian landrace MBR1012 and was located in the telomeric region of chromosome 1HS. The project aims at the isolation of this resistance gene via map based cloning. For this purpose about 5000 F2 plants will be analysed by co-dominant flanking markers in order to identiy recombinations within the target interval. Respective plants will be analysed in F3 for homozygous recombinants and in F4 phenotyping and marker saturation will be conducted. Using this approach candidate genes will be identified and closely linked markers will be developed facilitating an efficient introduction of this resistance into adapted barley lines.
