Project code: JKI-EP-08-2291
Contract period: 01.04.2016 - 31.03.2019
Purpose of research: Applied research

Early ripening non-transgenic soybean varieties are increasingly cultivated in Germany. Nematological investigations of fields and plants revealed Pratylenchus spp. as a major pest of soybean in Germany. It is unclear which species of Pratylenchus are responsible for damage on soybean in Germany, and which varieties of soybean are less susceptable. In this project a collection of Pratylenchus isolates from soybean will be established. They will be identified by molecular and morphological methods. Accumulating DNA sequences from these isolates will enable an easy identification of further isolates based on barcodes, and form a basis for the development of PCR protcocols for quantification of Pratylenchus species in soil and roots. Susceptibility of soybean varieties for the German market will be investigated using the most prevalent Pratylenchus species.
