Food and consumer protection

Project code: MRI-FL-08-4003
Contract period: 01.01.1998 - 31.12.2009
Purpose of research: Applied research

Since some years genetical modified plants are introduced through feed and with food into the food-chain. For this reason it is on the one hand necessary to identify genetical modified plants clearly by means of analytical methods as well as to quantify and to label GMO in food taking into consideration the EU-regulations 1829/2003 and 1830/2003 and consolidation. On the other hand transfer and integration of genetical modified DNA to the human organism must be excluded in order to prevent any impact on the consumer. On condition that type and loci of the genetical modification are well defined reliable qualitative GMO-analysis is possible, whereas quantification is only successful on a semiquantitative scale. Carry-over of plant-DNA originating from the loci of the genetical modification of Bt-maize to animal tissue was not detectable during different performed feeding trials.
