Collaborative project: Recycling of Phosphorus - from secondary raw material to a smart fertilizer - subproject 1 (PRil)
Project
Project code: 2818104215
Contract period: 01.08.2016
- 31.01.2019
Budget: 515,997 Euro
Purpose of research: Experimental development
Keywords: Sewage sludge ash, phosphorus recovery
From incineration ashes from the thermal utilization of sewage sludge a sustainably manufactured fertilizer based on phosphorus is produced, which contains no heavy metals and is long-term available for plants. For this, the P-Bac method of Fritzmeier Umwelttechnik GmbH is used, that generates a rich in phosphorus P-recyclate via microbiological leaching from the ashes. This recycled material is granulated at ICL Fertilizers. To create a stable and durable pellet, various additives and nitrogen- based fertilizers are used as additives. The Fraunhofer Project Group IWKS accompanies both companies on the way to the finished product. The ash is provided by the city of Munich. The aim of this innovative project is to produce a marketable, competitively priced with conventional fertilizers, P-fertilizer that is to be produced industrially after this project is finished.
