Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment
In accordance with the decree of 25.06.2018 – AZ 314-22510/0026 - the aim is to establish and consolidate an interdepartmental working group "Cost-utility-analysis of microbiological, chemical and nutritional risks in the food sector". The MRI is taking the lead, with the Thünen-Institute and the Robert Koch-Institute also involved. Other institutions (e.g. the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety, the Federal Statistical Office, health insurance companies, etc.) are consulted as required and depending on the issues at hand. The task of this interdisciplinary working group is to provide a scientific basis and decision-making aids for policy advice. The focus is on the analysis of the social costs and effects of possible interventions for microbiological, chemical and nutritional risks in the food sector in Germany. This includes, for example, i) the estimation of the costs of illness as well as the health effects ("burden of disease") due to different risks, ii) the determination of the effectiveness and investment costs of possible interventions, and iii) the comparison of the costs and benefits of specific measures.
