Cross-sector project 'AgroScapeLabs – Biodiversity Exploratories for agricultural landscapes

Project

Project code: ZALF-723
Contract period: 01.11.2010 - 31.10.2014
Purpose of research: Inventory & Assessment

ScapeLabs starts in 2011/12 with a pilot study, dealing with population dynamics and movement patterns in relation to landscape structure and resource dynamics. We will examine movement patterns of various mammal species (wild boars, red foxes, raccoons and hares) in intensively used agricultural areas. In the medium term different organism groups with different ecosystem functions (e.g. mammals, birds, insects, vascular plants, microorganisms, fungi) will be investigated to find patterns between landscape structure and biodiversity at different spatial scales. Large-scale observatories will be established to perform specific manipulations and experiments in a multi-functional agricultural landscape. Furthermore, research in other landscapes (such as forests, urban areas, aquatic systems, etc.) will be considered.
