Improving animal health and competitiveness on organic and conventionell farms through the use of 4.0 sensor technology
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-Ni-2019-LPTT-02
Contract period: 01.01.2019
- 31.12.2021
Budget: 498,895 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: farming practice/ activity, animal husbandry
It is an increasing challenge for pig farmers to improve animal welfare, reduce antibiotic use, make production more transparent and meet society's animal husbandry requirements. Good animal health and an overall stress-reducing attitude are of particular importance. In the interdisciplinary Operational Group 'SmartPigProduction' (SPP) farmers, experts, consultants, scientists and veterinarians are involved in order to implement 4.0 sensor technology on pig farms and to increase knowledge about pig keeping and animal health. By collaborating with conventional and organic operating farms, synergy effects are lifted in an interactive innovation model. On the basis of SmartData, predictive models for optimizing husbandry and animal health are being developed. This will enable farmers to react in real-time without delay to any reactions of the animals and developments in the stable.
