Optimisation of internal clover grass recycling in livestock-free organic farms
Project
Project code: 2818OE023
Contract period: 01.05.2019
- 30.04.2022
Budget: 353,315 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: crop production, organic farming, crop production, soil, soil conservation, soil fertility, soil cultivation, soil health, feed crop production, fertilization, clover, business administration
The overall objective of the project is the optimisation of the internal clover grass utilisation of livestock-free organic farms along the supply chain from cutting to application. The focus will be on the low-loss conservation of clover grass, the efficient utilisation of nutrients and the economic evaluation of clover grass transfer processes. Therefore, in the present project a consortium of practitioners, consultants and scientists has set itself the scientific and technical goals (i) to develop a composting process for clover grass with the focus on minimising nitrogen losses, (ii) to determine the fertilising effect of the composts in comparison with other clover grass transfer processes in field trials lasting several years and (iii) to carry out the economic evaluation (line cost calculations) of various clover grass fertilisation strategies to improve nutrient management on the basis of practice-relevant production and application processes and to make them available for practice.
