Project code: 2812HS018
Contract period: 01.02.2013 - 31.01.2014
Budget: 41,652 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research

The crises and scandals of recent years have increasingly brought agribusiness enterprises into the spotlight of critical public view. At the same time, acceptance, reputation and society’s trust in the producers of every stage of the food supply chain are essential determinants for the company’s success. The critical perception of various stakeholders can threaten the legitimacy and reputation of an enterprise and to some extent entire sectors. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a possible instrument for meeting the demands of the stakeholder for greater responsibility of the enterprises. CSR is generally understood as the voluntary acceptance of enterprises to take social responsibility. Therefore, this project aims to apply the concept of CSR for the first time to the entire agribusiness, for, up until now, CSR has hardly received attention in this area. The analysis will be carried out in multiple steps: a) determination of the status quo in research (meta-analysis, SWOT analysis), b) the status of political and business involvement in CSR (documentation of Best Practice examples, formulation of case studies, expert interviews), and c) the acquisition of empirically-based knowledge (representative consumer survey) as a foundation for recommended procedures and decisions for politicians and business practice.
