Collaborative project: Development of an automated decision support system for biological and integrated plant protection in greenhouses - Subproject 3 (DSSARTH)

Project

Project code: 2814903715
Contract period: 01.06.2017 - 31.10.2020
Budget: 77,285 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: Sustainable plant protection

In cooperation with the project partners iotec GmbH, ISIP e.V., and Katz Biotech AG, the basic principles for an automated monitoring procedure and a novel decision support system were developed, with the aim of standardising and optimising the processes in biological and integrated plant protection. Coloured sticky traps were used to routinely monitor insects in the crop, which provided the basis for an automated recording of pests and beneficial insects with the help of image evaluation. In addition, the monitoring data were also used to determine the relationship to the current population density of insects in the crop and to forecast future development with population dynamics models. All parameters are transmitted to a web based application and, in combination with newly developed decision trees, serve to provide the farmer with recommendations for efficient pest management based on customised information on the current infestation situation.
