Description
The Veterinary Research Institute (VRI) is involved in research projects sponsored not only by its founder organization, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the State Veterinary Administration of the Czech Republic which is the main user of the results, but also by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic; we also have projects sponsored by other Czech and foreign organizations. The Institute contributes to the reduction of animal production losses and to the protection of human health through the study of infectious and non-infectious diseases of animals, reproduction disorders, the function of the bovine mammary gland, milking and milk processing technologies, animal nutrition and ecotoxicology, genetics, adverse effects of environmental impairment to animal health and safety and the wholesomeness of foods of animal origin. The Institute is the coordination centre of FAO for veterinary biotechnology and epidemiology and the WHO Collaborating centre for research and training in veterinary public health. VRI is authorized by the Director of State Veterinary Administration to operate both reference laboratories and collaborating and consulting centres in different fields of veterinary diagnostics.
