Cultivation of oil radish as intercrop to protect potato from Tobacco Rattle Virus and free-living nematodes - investigation of differences between cultivars
Project
Project code: JKI-A-08-1330
Contract period: 01.04.2022
- 01.12.2022
Purpose of research: Experimental development
The cultivation of oil radish before potatoes in order to reduce the infection pressure of TRV is an established biocontrol strategy. Numerous varieties with individual characteristics are currently available for this purpose. However, according to the Best4Soil scheme, there are strong variations regarding the reproduction of trichodorids in oil radish. The recovery rate of TRV in oil radish is said to be significantly lower compared to other species. These differences in the ability to reduce the occurence of TRV and Trichodorus are also noted among users. However, there is no reliable test system for the classification of potato varieties with regard to susceptibility to Trichodorus/TRV, since pure cultures of Trichodorus do not exist. In this project, the efficacy of different oil radish cultivars on the protection of potatoes against infection with TRV will be investigated in soil from naturally infestend field sites.
