Elaboration of scientific principles for the in-situ and on-farm management of genetic resources of agricultural and horticultural crops
Description:
The contract of 27th June/ 23th July 2001 organises the cooperation between the Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK) and the BAZ with the aim of promoting conservation and use if plant genetic resources. Accordingly, the BAZ assume research tasks in the field of in-situ and on-farm management after shut down of the BAZ Gene Bank at Braunschweig. The term on-farm management, created at the international political level, can be interpreted in differently. When developing a framework concept for the in-situ and on farm management in the Federal Republic of Germany the characteristics of agricultural production of a highly industrialised country needs to be considered. The project aims at the organisation of export discussions, knowledge extraction from comprehensive literature on the subject of on farm management and in the provision of know how as part of the consultancy of the BMVEL.
