Collaborative project: Identification of molecular markers for BYDV-resistance in maize – Subproject 2
Description:
Objectives: The overall objective of this research project is to set the stage for marker assisted breeding of BYDV resistant maize. In order to achieve this, we will systematically assess the genotypic variation for BYDV resistance in segregating populations of maize. In addition, we will identify genome regions contributing to variation in BYDV resistance using linkage mapping approaches and will further fine map them using association genetics approaches. With this knowledge, the breeding of BYDV resistant maize will be considerably facilitated. Workplan: The key activities of the proposed research project are: a.) Phenotyping the segregating populations with respect to BYDV resistance in field and greenhouse experiments, b.) Genotyping the segregating populations with genome-wide distributed SNP markers and identification of genome regions contributing to the variation of BYDV resistance, c.) Phenotyping an association mapping population with respect to BYDV resistance in greenhouse experiments, d.) Genotyping the association mapping population in candidate regions and detection of marker-phenotype associations.
