Biotechnological applications of natural defense mechanisms
Description:
We will perform QTL-mapping to determine elements and factors required for the regulation of the Bx-gene cluster. Candidate genes identified by fine mapping will be functionally tested (co-regulation, mutant analysis, transgenic approaches). To get insight into the consequences of the transfer of an alien secondary metabolic pathway, we will analyse transgenic A. thaliana expressing combinations of the pathway’s functional modules by metabolomics and transcriptomics. The impact of benzoxazinoid expression on resistance against pathogens and herbivores will be assayed.
