The main purpose of the Istituto Sperimentale Italiano 'Lazzaro Spallanzani' is the scientific research and the experimentation in the field of animal breeding and selection, especially focusing techniques in experimental embryology, in flow cytometry, in sexed semen in cattle, in molecular genetics (with particular reference to Real Time PCR) and cryo-biology, but also in the field of genetic typization and characterization of different species and traceability of foodstuffs of animal origin. The species of interest ranging from domestic mammals to fish and bees.
