Collaborative project: Smart Yeast Filtration - Self-optimizing process automation of dynamic microfiltration with AI support for economic recovery of yeast by-product flows in breweries - subproject A (Project)
...Since the brewing industry in Germany is characterized by a comparatively large proportion of small and medium-sized breweries (with a production share of about 30% of the total 93.5 million hl/year), this innovative technology can make a significant contribution to the conservation of resources, especially agricultural raw materials. The aim of the project applied for is to optimise the process and the process automation of the Rotoramic plants with the methods of Industry 4.0 in order to achieve the highest possible yield and quality of the recovered beer, a long service life of the membranes and an operation that is as energy and resource-saving as possible. ...The aim is to show how such processes can be better controlled and made more resource-efficient by means of Industry 4.0....

Reasons for culling sows - instrument to improve herd management (Project)
...The new recording system had 9 main chapters with about 90 single points. Besides the main reason farmers could use up to 3 sub-reasons. 46 pig-farms in North Rhine Westphalia with about 10.000 sows (average was 210 sows per farm) used a new code-system of culling reasons. Nearly 2.500 sows were recorded. On average 92 % were slaughtered, 6 % of them were found dead, 2 % were euthanized. The farms differed extremely from 0 to 17 % of mortality or euthanizing-rate. More than the half of the records had at least one sub-reason. ...

Importance and Bioactivity of the Microbial trans-Resveratrol Metabolites Dihydroresveratrol and Lunularin (Project)
...In own preliminary studies, next to dihydroresveratrol (DH-RES), two previously unknown microbial t-RES metabolites, i.e. 3,4´-dihydroxy-trans-stilbene and lunularin, were identified in vitro and in vivo. ...The objectives of this project are 1.) elucidation of the importance of the microbial t-RES metabolites dihydroresveratrol and lunularin in human adults by means of a human intervention study that is based on a larger cohort (n=100; LC-DAD-MS-analysis of 48 h-urine); 2.) identification of bacterial species which are associated with the formation of lunularin using 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing, DGGE and qRT-PCR. ...Murine plasma and urine samples will be analysed as follows: insulin-like growth factor and insulin by ELISA; cholesterol and triglyceride levels by photometry; the expression of Nrf2 target genes GPx, HO-1, GST and NQO1 by Western blotting and qRT-PCR; the activity of AMPK by Western blotting, the Sirt1 activity by fluorimetry and autophagy-markers by Western blotting anti-LC3; comprehensive GCxGC-MS based metabolomics. ...

Spatial and Temporal Variability of Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Farmers‘ Rice Fields under Water-Saving Strategies in the Philippines (Project)
...The overarching goal of the project is the regional up-scaling of CH4 and N2O emissions under different water-saving/management characteristics. The specific goals are to 1. Assess temporal variability of CH4 and N2O emissions in farmers‘ fields practicing watersaving techniques. 2. Study the spatial variability of emissions as affected by distinct water-saving practices of different farmers. 3. Calibrate and validate a bio-geochemistry model (DNDC) to the specific conditions in two regions of the Philippines (Central Luzon and Central Visayas). 4. ...
