Collaborative project: A process for spore removal in raw milk in artisanal cheese dairies in order to sustainably increase product quality - subproject 1 (Project)
...Within the scope of these tests, the effects of different temperatures (from 5 °C to max. 40 °C) and bowl speeds as well as of the use of different centripetal pumps and multiple centrifugation can be characterized. ...In a next step, the prototype will be installed in two different small cheese dairies (Biohof Eilte GbR and Vorwerker Diakonie gGmbH), which differ in terms of the raw milk delivery structure. Work package 1: Participants: HsH, GEA Westfalia; Duration: 4 months; Preliminary actions project stage 1: Development of a prototype for milk sterilisation for low product quantities for the use in small dairies Work package 2: participants: HsH, GEA Westfalia; duration: 14 months; Installation and commissioning of the equipment and experiments for characterising the effects of milk temperature and speed of centrifuge, and of the centripetal pump geometry to the separation rate project stage 2: Implementation of the prototype in small dairies and analysis of the influence of the germ reduction by centrifugation on the cheese quality Work package 3: Participants: HsH, Biohof Eilte GbR, GEA Westfalia, Bioland e.V.; Duration: 7 months; Performing the trials at Biohof Eilte GbR. Work package 4: Participants: HsH, Vorwerker Diakonie gGmbH, GEA Westfalia, Bioland e.V.; Duration: 7 months; Trials carried out in the dairy of Vorwerker Diakonie gGmbH....

Collaborative project: Organic nanofibers as novel carriers for volatile semiochemicals in integrated and ecological agriculture – Subproject 2 (Project)
...Within the project FKZ 313- 06.01- 28- 1- 42.011- 06 an interdisciplinary consortium of scientists and engineers has been established. ...These dispensers of biodegradable, environmentally compatible Ecoflex (R) polyester fiber with diameters in the upper nanometer range are charged during the spinning process with the sex pheromone (E,Z),7,9-dodecadienyl acetate specific for Lobesia botrana (Lepidoptera.Tortricidae), the European grape berry moth. ...Moreover, technical realization of these inventions is possible with existing commercial cultivation equipment, e.g. shoot binder machines, but for refinement needs further investments of public funds....

Collaborative project: FUGATO-plus - Genetic dialogue - The importance epistatischer mechanisms in the characteristic expression in cattle and swine; subprojects FBN (Project)
...In the first QTL mapping experiments with chicken and epistatisch mouse, the genetic variation of 18 different growth characteristics and health, by the QTLs declared, on average about 33%, taking into account the individual characteristics of 0 to 81% varied. This project combines the scientific results of the BMBF-funded QTL mapping programmes in cattle and pork with the new technical and methodological developments in the structural and functional genome analysis in animal. Based on the estimate of QTL interaction effects (statistical Epistasie) for the phenotypic characteristics of different experimental one for beef herd (F2 SEGFAM RF x Cha-Population: milk, meat quality) and pigs (F2-Bonn-Berlin x Minipig: carcasses, Meat quality, health characteristics) of 18 high or extreme low power animals. ...In addition, in a first approach in the German Holstein population (ADR F2-Holstein Panel) epistatische QTL mapped and their effects on phenotypic Milchleistungs, exterior and functional characteristics. ...

Change in serum TSH levels as a function of iodine intake and thyroid volume - an in-depth evaluation of the study KiGGS (Project)
...For statistical analyses in final regression models, only those children were included for whom none of the available parameters (including fT3 and fT4 measurements) suggested pathophysiologic changes in thyroid status (n=6101).In contrast to the conventional doctrine, also in children with healthy thyroid function, urinary iodine excretion (iodine status) was significantly positively associated with TSH (P less than 0.05; adjusted for sex, age, body surface area, BMI, fT3/fT4 ratio and time of blood sampling). Children with better iodine status showed, on average, an about 0.2 µU/mL higher TSH level than children with lower iodine status. ...In parallel, children with smaller thyroid volume (long-term better iodine supply) had significantly higher TSH levels (P less than 0.001, fully adjusted). Short-term iodine status (spot urine) and thyroid volume were negatively associated in the basic linear regression model (P less than 0.05, adjusted for sex and body surface area); however, this association lost statis-tical significance after full adjustment of the model. ...

Migration of nanosilver and nanoclay from food packaging materials into food (Project)
...The migrations experiments were carried out with self-made test pouches (10 cm x 15 cm), each filled in triplicate with 100 mL of food simulant (ultrapure water, 3% v/v acetic acid and 10% v/v ethanol), sealed and stored at 40 °C for nine days. ...The highest silver release was determined to be 6.8 ± 0.8 µg/dm2 with film 7 and 3% acetic acid and the lowest silver release was observed in the commercially available films in trace concentrations ranging from 3 ± 1 ng/dm2 to 33 ± 3 ng/dm2. ...For the test series the fillets were packed in nanosilver containing bags (blank and film 1 – 4) and for reference in sterile whirl-packs and stored at 4°C in refrigerator for 7 days. 10 colonies were randomly picked for bacterial diagnostics to check, whether the bacterial flora have changed in composition due to different storage conditions. ...
