Collaborative project: Improvement of dairy farming by breeding strategies for feed intake, metabolism, and environmental sustainability under conditions of optimized feeding intensity and utilization of metabolism indicators and sensors in herd management - subproject 7 (Project)

...Recommendations for optimal ration design and efficient concentrates use were derived. Based on the data (1.374 dairy cows) with phenotypes for feed intake and parameters for calculating energy balances, a direct selection of feed intake capacity and feed efficiency is possible for the first time using genomics. ...Schmitz, R., Schnabel, K., von Soosten, D., Meyer, U., Hüther, L., Spiekers, H., Rehage, J., Dänicke, S. (2018): Changes of ruminal pH, rumination activity and feeding behaviour during early lactation as affected by different energy and fibre concentrations of roughage in pluriparous dairy cows. ...

Strategies for more efficient oat breeding for organic farming - JKI (Project)

...In the present project, three focal points have been defined to increase the efficiency of oat breeding: 1.) Durable smut resistance: Based on the findings of finished project ‘KLAR’ (FKZ 2815NA107), resistance mapping to validate GWAS results is planned, investigations on the necessary level of blight resistance and cleistogamy, as well as the investigation of smut isolates. 2) Recurrent Genomic Selection (RGS): Here, cycles 2 to 3 of a RGS started in the project 'FUGE' (FKZ 28AIN02A20) will be run with focus on yield and quality. 3) Priming with microorganisms in oats and their effect on biotic (smut and crown rust) and abiotic stress tolerance (drought stress). ...
