Collaborative project: Standardization of the GeoBox infrastructure - Phase 1: Dezentralized data management and regional networking - subproject 5 (Project)

...The goal of the project GeoBox-I is the experimental development, testing and dissemination of a practicable prototype of a standardized and resilient GeoBox infrastructure for decentralized data storage and regional networking. This includes (1) providing data structures and vocabularies for exchange-relevant information which are easy to understand in a suitable web portal as a public service to the industry; (2) the GeoBox specification as a corporate data hub with a cache for a variety of relevant information, under the sole control of the particular farm; (3) the provision of key geospatial and technical data for farms with decentralized storage in farms; (4) the realization of communication protocols and form assistants for standardized data exchange with third parties; (5) the design of exemplary services that extract directly useful advice to farmers from the standardized data available; and (6) the implementation of all essential functions in the form of disclosed reference implementations of exemplary applications. These are focused on sovereign information and advice in the field of crop protection and transferred to the practice in the context of education and training on the topic of resilient smart farming. The 5 packages of the work plan include 1) design and specification of the system concept and the overall architecture, 2) the realization of the infrastructure level with GeoBox server with dynamic vocabulary services (including provision of vocabulary and appropriate change management), 3) the reference implementation of a 'HofBox' as decentralized knowledge store and node for internal and external data communication (operational level of resilient communication capability), 4) the realization of exemplary apps for communication, service and consulting assistance to agricultural applications in the field (examples of service level), finally 5) the support of roll-out and practical introduction by training and further education, training courses, cooperations with model companies, comparison with other federal states and establishment of a project-accompanying advisory board from associations, industry and users. The TU Darmstadt deals in particular with empirical studies on requirements analysis, P2P networking, geo-forms and evaluation studies....

Development and assessment of practice-oriented measure to reduce infection level of fennel seeds with Mycosphaerella anethi (Project)

...1. Aim of project: Project includes two main goals:Starting from previously developed RT-PCR experimental parameters for a qRT-PCR are to determine and optimise. ...Subsequently several aspects of plant cultivation and epidemiology areto analyse aiming at the improvement of commercial fennel production. 2. Working plan: (1) Development of a qRT-PCR method to quantitatively detect M. anethi in seeds and seedlings, (2)Efficiency analysis of various plant protection measure on seeds and young plants, (3) Generation of healthy seeds based on fungus-free in vitro fennel plants, (4) Investigation of the effect of plant cultivation measures on level of seed infestation, (5)Epidemiological analysis of temporal spread of M. anethi in fennel crops using seed material with different level of infestation, determination of the necessary distance between fields in order to minimise or prevent input of conidia form outside, (6)Investigation of a potential soil transmissibility of M. anethi....

Collaborative project: Use of UV/UV-LED radiation for the reduction of microorganisms on eggs - subproject 1 (Project)

...In laboratory tests, comparable reductions of zoonotic pathogens on the egg surface up to 3.2 log cfu/cm² by mercury vapor lamps and 1.6 log cfu/cm² by LED-technology were achieved with respect to their different intensity levels (~ 5 to ~ 2,4 mW/cm²). ...In practice, reductions of the aerobic total microbial count and Enterococci suspected colonies of 1 log were observed with both UV systems. Sensory alteration of eggs after UV-C treatment can be neglected. ...

Bat influenza virus chimeras as basis for the development of a new type of vaccine backbone for live stock vaccination (Project)

...This is mainly due to the risk of reassortment events between vaccine strains and wild type IAV-strains, and partly to the pathogenicity associated with vaccine strains e.g. in very young animals. However, we recently succeeded to generate chimeric viruses containing six out of the eight bat H17N10 virus genes, with the remaining two genes encoding the haemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) proteins of a prototypic influenza A virus (IAV). ...We also want to equip these viruses with HA and NA of high (H5, H7) and low (H1, H5, H7, H9) pathogenic avian IAV and determine the growth properties and associated immune responses in chicken. ...
