Effects of maternal undernutrition during pregnancy and postnatal high fat nutrition on preference for voluntary exercise versus eating: Relations between behavioural changes and endocrine and metabolic profiles (Project)

...This research project will allow the applicant: a) to initiate a detailed analysis of the behavioural and physiological basis of lifestyle choices; b) to identify specific components of nutritional influences (e.g., nutrition during pregnancy) that may be responsible for alterations in choices; and c) to use metabolic and endocrine parameters as markers to develop strategies for diagnosis and treatment of individuals influenced by adverse environments during development who are at risk of adult complications like obesity, hyperinsulinism, hypertension and diabetes....

SPP 1090 AG 1: The quantitative importance of ligand exchange, cation bridging and van der Waals forces in stabilizing organic matter by coupling to mineral surfaces (Project)

...The overall goal will be devided in the following subgoals: a) which are the mechanisms behind the protective capacity of the mineral assemblage, b) what is the influence of clay mineralogy on stabilisation rates, c) how does theclay mineral assemblage influence proportion and type of organic matter associated with clay minerals, d) are there pathways from the pool of easily degradable organic matter into the pool of organic matter, that is stabilized through interaction with clay minerals, e) which rates of transfer are applicable here....

Thematic network 'OK-Net Arable' - Organic Knowledge Network Arable (Project)

...The overall aim of the thematic network ‘OK-Net Arable’ is to improve the exchange of innovative and traditional knowledge among farmers, farm advisers and scientists to increase productivity and quality in organic arable cropping all over Europe, in order to satisfy future market demand. To achieve this, 'OK-Net Arable' has three specific objectives:1) to create a European network of well-functioning farmer innovation groups representing the best examples of co-innovation by farmers and researchers. The network of farmer innovation groups will serve to exchange experiences in the area of arable crop production and test the innovative end-user and education material developed in the project;2) to digest and synthesize the considerable knowledge available from the reservoir of scientific and practical knowledge in the area of organic arable farming and to identify the best methodology in learning and knowledge exchange. Based on this easily understandable education and end-user material will be developed;3) to create a platform for knowledge exchange across Europe unique in organic farming, offering both innovative education and end-user material as well as offering opportunities for farmer-to-farmer, advisor-to-advisor or researcher-to-advisor-to-farmer learning. The multi-actor approach is prominent in this proposal: (1) at EU level with scientific partners and farmers' associations jointly coordinating the work packages; (2) on the local level with farmers, farm advisors and scientists cooperating in farmer innovation groups. ...

PreSto GMO ERA-Net - Preparatory steps towards a GMO research ERA-Net (GMO - genetically modified organisms) (Project)

...In addition, the ERA-Net will explicitly take into account the wider views of a diversity of stakeholders and end-users (e.g. non-governmental organisations, industry, farmers). ...In achieving this the project work will (1) promote the accessibility of existing scientific information to interested stakeholders and end-users, (2) lead to the harmonisation of research requirements and capacity building within Europe, (3) complement international developments, (4) contribute to a more efficient use of research funds internationally and (5) identify how strategic collaboration can be used to respond to these future research and training needs through enhancement of durable partnerships....

Identification and enhancement of secondary metabolites in medicinal and aromatic plants for potential use as biological pesticides and pharmacologicals (Project)

...Specifically we suggested to 1.) adapt and apply metabolomics approaches to identify secondary plant metabolites as active structures/compounds against agricultural plant infestations; 2.) enhance the content of biologically and pharmacologically active substances by selecting genetic raw materials from extreme environments; 3.) enhance the production of these metabolites by mimicking extreme environmental conditions (global climate change) during cultivation. ...In this context suitable (fast) analytical screening methods (e.g. LC-MS, GC-MS, vibrational spectroscopy techniques) will be applied to obtain objective data from the individual metabolic profile. ...

Development of a planning and consulting tool for acquiring and promoting biodiversity in intensively used arable farming regions (Project)

...In future digital technologies will also have to be increasingly used for this purpose. Some federal states (e.g. Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony), already implemented business plans to promote biodiversity on farms. ...In order to achieve this aim, the project was divided into six sub-modules:1.    Development of an assessment tool to determine the status quo of agrobiodiversity2.    ...

Forest Real-World Laboratories - Experiments, Synthesis and Governance for Optimizing Natural Climate Protection in Forest Ecosystems - Subproject 3 (Project)

...The project objectives are to be achieved by working on the following work packages (WP): WP1 "Establishment and demonstration of a forest living lab (FLL)". ...Based on the results a draft of an evaluation system for selected ecosystem services is developed. In WP 2 "Regionalization and forecasting", data from the FLL is used in a synthesis with data from remote sensing analyses, forest modelling and other relevant geodata from forest inventories and environmental monitoring in order to derive regional findings on the development of the regions of Harz and Lower Bavaria, and the entire FLL area of spruce-dominated forests of low mountain ranges in Germany. ...WP 3 "Synthesis of results for bundling research in the forest and wood sector" is dedicated to the legal analysis to implement the results obtained through a future adapted legal framework, e.g. with regard to specifications for future forest management, but also reflecting social perception and demands on the forest. ...
