Collaborative project: Selective, non-chemical control of toxic plants in extensive grassland. Subproject 2 (Project)

...For this purpose, a driverless, 0.40 m wide mower and, alternatively, a tractor-coupled water jet device with a working width of 2.50 m, divided into 10 individually switchable sections, were set up. ...In spring, the devices removed the plants from the grassland according to this map. A repeated measure 2 to 3 weeks later reduced the stock to 0 to 2 plants per m² at the time of the hay harvest in mid-June."...

Determination of chlorinated paraffins in nut nougat- or chocolate cream based on palm oil (Project)

...Furthermore, this food group has a high market relevance for the sensitive consumer group of infants.CPs were detected in 15 of the 30 samples tested (50 %). SCCPs (24-87 ng/g FW) and MCCPs (50-350 ng/g FW) were identified in 12 samples each (40 %), in nine (30 %) of which SCCPs and MCCPs were present side by side (and thus three samples each contained only SCCPs and MCCPs respectively). The median CP-containing sample was significantly higher for MCCPs (96 ng/g FW) than for SCCPs (35 ng/g FW). The ∑CP contents of the positive samples ranged from 24 to 350 ng/g FW, with a median value of all 30 samples of 18 ng/g FW (including negative results with 1/2 NG; median of CP-containing samples 140 ng/g FW). ...Besides palm oil, the most frequently labelled fats were sunflower oil (17 sampled), rapeseed oil (9 sampled) and cocoa butter (5 sampled). In addition, 28 samples contained hazelnuts. ...

Regeneration, Maintenance, and Sustainable Use of Pristine Forests in Ethiopia (Project)

...This requires the employment of a project-coordinating scientist. His tasks will be (1) to coordinate the field work, (2) to administer the field station and the project car, (3) to manage the permanent plots, (4) to establish and coordinate the experiments of the silviculture project, (5) to organise training activities for Ethiopian students and professionals, (6) to deal with Ethiopian authorities, (7) to interact with the Addis Ababa University and the Ethiopian Agricultural Research Organization, (8) to strengthen networking within the project package, and (8) to take the lead in the preparation of a manual for the sustainable management of the Munessa-Shashemene Forest....

Identification of satiating compounds in dietary fats and optimization of low-fat foods by adding satiating lipoid compounds (Project)

...The aim of this project was to evaluate the satiating effects of different types of fat in two human intervention studies, and to elucidate the molecular mechanisms in cell culture experiments using human hepatic cancer cells (HepG2). In the first human intervention study, total amounts of 8 % olive oil, canola oil, lard or milk fats were added to low-fat yoghurt (0.1 % fat). ...In a second human intervention study, 500 g low-fat yoghurt (0.1 % fat) was enriched with an aroma extract prepared from 120 ml olive oil. ...In these experiments, hexanal and E2-hexenal being two of the predominant aroma active compounds in olive oil, were identified as key active compounds. ...

Application of the near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) for the ethanol cereal breeding and ethanol production (Project)

...The standard error of cross validation ( RMSECV ) of the ethanol yield are 0.66 to 1.28 l ethanol/100 kg cereals. In relation to the low standard deviation (SD ) of the calibraton data sets (0,95 to 1,61 l ethanol/100 kg cereals) , the error in this way are too high, so that the RPDcv values ( RPDcv = SD / RMSECV ) is between 1.35 and 1.63. A RPD value 2.5 is required, so that the calibration can be used for screening. These first results in the context of literature reviews rise to the assumption that the observed standard deviation of the ethanol yield is maximal 2l ethanol/100 kg cereals. Therefore a subsequent step will focused the investigation on earlier breeding material....

Mechanical analysis of liver-toxic substances in a hepatic co-culture model (Project)

...In this study we established and utilized a co-culture model composed of hepatocytes (HepG2) and monocyte-like cells (THP-1) in order to minimize animal experiments. ...In this project we quantified more than 1,000 Proteins in THP-1 as well as in HepG2 cells after treatment with 3 different concentrations of ketoconazole (typical hepatotoxic substance) and o-anisidine (example of migrating substance) in single as well as in the co-culture model. Additionally, ketoconazole and ketoconazole metabolites were quantified in HepG2 und THP-1 cells as well as the supernatants to draw conclusions on the exposition scenarios. ...

GHG mitigation trough model based optimisaiton and evaluation of cropping systems for renewable ressources. (Project)

...The focus of this project is on the three relevant components of GHG assessment: yield (potential GHG savings), direct N2O emissions and nitrate leaching as the basis for indirect N2O emissions. ...The overall project is divided into 9 work packages, which are to be tackled in close cooperation between the project partners Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel and Thünen-Institut Braunschweig. Specifically, the following APs are defined: AP1 - project coordination, AP2 - preparation of experimental data for model calibration and evaluation, AP3 - calibration and evaluation of models for estimating productivity, direct nitrous oxide emissions and nitrate leaching of cropping systems, AP4 calculation of GHG indicators for the data sets of the AP2, AP5 analysis of soil and climatic effects on GHG indicators, AP6 - Comparative assessment of applicability of models, AP7 - Model-based optimization of cropping systems, AP8 - Meta models for forecasting of N leaching in NaWaRo systems and AP9: Stakeholder workshops...
