Collaborative project: Climate Protection-oriented Treatment of Biowaste for Agriculture. Subproject 3 (Project)
...This enables every operator of biowaste treatment plants to elevate the climate protection character of their production facilities along the processing chain, from the acceptance of input materials and their processing to the provision of high-quality organic biowaste products. The focal points of the developed strategies on limiting CO2 balances in the production of organic fertilizers from biowaste lie in the following areas:· Detection and evaluation of greenhouse gas emissions during aerobic biowaste treatment by on-site field measurements.· Recording and evaluating energy balances in biowaste treatment processes· Climate-relevant evaluation of structural and technical equipment of biowaste treatment plants· Proof of CO2 savings through the use of biowaste products for straw, peat and nutrient substitutions· Development of a pilot version for climate protection quality assurance of biowaste treatment through voluntary in-house and external monitoring· Verification of this pilot version, in particular the compliance with emission guide values in biowaste plants. The above-mentioned developed strategies were carried out by the project partners:· Förderverband Humus e.V.· Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum gGmbH· TERRA URBANA Umlandentwicklungsgesellschaft mbHin close cooperation with experienced biowaste treatment plants and competent expert committees."...

Developing lettuce varieties with improved adaptability by decentral breeding (Project)
...Ten lettuce lines/varieties were tested in two growing sets compared with ‘Neckarriesen’ as the susceptible standard and ‘Analena’ as the resistant one. The best lines/varieties were compared locally to the original seeds in 2014 aiming to evaluate the adaptability. ...Finally, as a result of the project, high quality, regionally differently suitable lettuce with considerably improved features can be provided for Kultursaat e. V. who will decide upon their application with the Bundessortenamt (German Federal Plant Variety Office). ...

Molecular Toxicity of conjugated linoleic acid isomers and branched chain fatty acids; The role of the nuclear receptor PPAR in colon carcinogenesis (Project)
...In the intestine all three isoforms are expressed, but we only focus on isoform PPARdelta because recent studies confirm the assumption that there is a correlation between PPARdelta and the accruement of colon carcinoma. Now our point of interest is the potential interaction of the used TFAs and PPARdelta. ...To answer this question following parameters shall be investigated:proliferation (characterized through measurement of cell rate and expression of the genesc-myc, c-jun and cyclin-D),differentiation (characterized through expression of the alkaline phosphatase and saccharase-isomaltase),cell adhesion (characterized through ß-catenin, E-cadherin und N-CAM) andapoptosis (characterized through FACS analysis with FITC-annexin-V, activity of caspases, DNA-fragmentation and expression of apoptose marker genes)....
