Changes in fish distribution and species composition as a result of climatic changes in the East Greenland Ecosystem: implications for fisheries and management (Project)

...Several countries have been fishing in the EGrE for decades (e.g. Germany, Greenland, and Norway), primarily for Greenland halibut, cod and redfish. ...Workpackages (WP): - WP1: WP1 Distribution of key species in the East Greenland ecosystem – Do distributions vary over time? - WP2: Climatic conditions and their variability since 1982 - WP3: Trophic relations: Prey items as indicators for changes in the environment and water masses - WP4: The marine ecosystem – Simulating and modeling - WP5: Linking marine fauna and climate: ecosystem robustness, management implications - WP6: Management implications of climatic changes in the marine environment - WP7: In depth studies on key species: Greenland halibut - WP8: Generic dissemination and reporting...

Collaborative project: Development of an agricultural silo compactor with online density measurement and driver information system – Subproject 1 (Project)

...This will be realised following a number of sub goals: 1. the establishment of a complete silo density measuring system, 2. the creation of a corrected silo compaction model with accurate weighting of the factors, 3. the implementation of the model in an optimized silo compactor and 4. the development of a demonstrator for a driver information system with online density measurement. ...On average, the measured grass silos had a density of 741 kg/m³ and 236 kg DM/m³. Crops were compacted 1.19 min/t. The surface settling during ensiling was 8.7% of the original height. ...Both the number of crossings of the last layer and the sinking depth are displayed to the driver. A 12-t-vibratory roller was adapted to the conditions in the silo. ...

Collaborative project: Molecular and immunological analysis of survival and postnatal growth of piglets - subproject 1 (Project)

...In order to realize these aims, the project is divided into three subprojects: 1) Evaluation of genomic methods to improve individual birth weight and survival of piglets. 2) Genetic improvement of piglet vitality and survival as well as growth potential of growing pigs using immuno-profiling and genomic selection. 3) Verification of previously identified genomic regions and corresponding biological pathways which are involved in the regulation of piglet survival and immuno-response. Activities are scheduled as follows: 1) Quantitative analysis of historical data comprising birth weight and piglet survival of two maternal pig populations. 2) Recording of birth weight, immune parameters and survival along with corresponding genomic SNP-information of 1400 piglets together with their dams. 3) Genetic statistical analysis (genomwide association study, genomic selection) of recorded phenotype and genotype information. 4) Exact experiment with 24 litters from extreme matings in order to verify and validate previously identified genomic regions and pathway, which are relevant for immune response and piglet survival. 5) Next generation sequencing of discordant full sibs in order to validate and verify biological pathways relevant for immuno-competence....

Establishment of databases for serological monitoring in wild birds (Project)

...In Germany, HPAI H5N1 has so far only been detected in dead animals. Findings from Asia, however, show that live animals (e.g. certain duck species, tree sparrows) can harbour the virus. In live swans investigated in Croatia, signs for the presence of antibodies against the H5N1 virus were found. The occurrence of live, seropositive animals must be considered as evidence that the virus has established in the wild bird population and that the infection is not always lethal in the affected animals. ...

Impact of wood-based panel moisture content on the gas analysis value (Project)

...In wood products it can be found in the adhesives, but they have to comply with a limit of 0.1 ppm (according to GefStoffV). The limit is determined based on the so-called chamber method (EN 717 Part 1, reference method); this method is very sensitive and can determine even low formaldehyde emissions from materials. ...Another method (DIN EN 717-2, gas analysis) performs very well, but it lacks sufficient testing, especially for uncoated chipboard and fibreboard, because this method has been used so far only for plywood and coated board materials. ...So far, very good correlations between the material moisture and gas analysis for each individual panel type (e.g., E1-grade particleboard) were determined. However, we doubt at this stage that a general relationship can be determined because the relationship of moisture and gas analysis for different panel types differed. ...

Investigation of nitrogen efficiency in Solanum tuberosum (Project)

...Four different components are differentiated in respect to nitrogen utilization of plants: (1) absorption, (2) assimilation, (3) translocation, and (4) remobilization. ...In Europe potato culture comprises an area of approximately 1,300,000 ha per year. This research project aims at the establishment of methods which will allow the development of potato genotypes with increased nitrogen efficiency. Special emphasis will be placed on (1) characterization of genetic ressources in regard to different components of nutrient uptake and utilization, (2) investigation of effects of nitrogen deficiency on development and physiology of different genotypes, (3) genetical analysis of nitrogen efficiency as well as (4) development of appropriate screening and selection procedures....

Methylated amines in vivo after dairy consumption (Project)

...They are bacterially metabolized in the gut, before they get absorbed and eventually metabolized further, e.g. in the liver. An important example is TMAO (Trimethylamine-N-oxide): associations with cardiovascular disease are described, but also an increase after consumption of e.g. fish, eggs or meat. ...Burton KJ, Krüger R, Rosikiewicz M, Pimentel G, Münger L, Croxatto A, Aeby S, Pralong FP, Greub G, Vionnet N, Vergères G (2018). ...Finland Burton KJ, Krüger R, Scherz V, Münger LH, Picone G, Vionnet N, Bertelli C, Greub G, Capozzi F, Vergères G Trimethylamine-N-Oxide Postprandial Response in Plasma and Urine Is Lower After Fermented Compared to Non-Fermented Dairy Consumption in Healthy Adults Nutrients 2020, 12(1), 234, doi.org/10.3390/nu12010234...
