Development and evaluation of basic material with resistance to Monilia blossom blight, Monilinia laxa, on sour cherry (Project)

...The cultivars 'Schwäbische Weinweichsel' ('PC 2'), 'Jade' and 'Stevnsbaer' have shown resistances to Monilia blossom blight. Resistant genotypes should be selected and evaluated for fruit growing in cross populations with these cultivars. Additional F3 seedlings with the Prunus species P. maackii are available. ...

Collaborative project: Fish health in climate change: The application of UV-C radiation in rainbow trout aquaculture - Subproject A (Project)

...The investigations in aquaculture practice and in experimental salmonid husbandry are intended to gain a deeper understanding of the dose-response relationship between UV-C radiation, fish pathogens and the fish. Under standardised laboratory conditions, the effect of conventional UV-C low-pressure lamps on relevant fish pathogens will be compared with LED-based UV-C radiation. Hereby, important knowledge for the future application of commercial LED-UV-C in aquaculture can already be gained within this project. ...Together, the findings will be able to optimise and update existing application protocols for UV-C units....

Effects of the endogenous pectate lyase (PL) 1 on the induction of plant defence mechanisms in transgenic potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) (Project)

...Dèsirèe expressing the isoenzyme PL1 of Erwinia carotovora will be generated. The PL1 transgenic plant lines will be grown in the greenhouse and the tubers will be examined with respect to properties of relevance for host resistance against Erwinia soft rot. It is assumed, that the isoenzyme PL1 has an enhanced capacity to induce plant defence mechanisms due to its ability to release longer chained, i.e. hepta- and pentamer unsaturated oligoglacturonates (OG) from plant cell wall pectin. For this reason the effect of PL1 expression on tissue cell walls, polyphenol oxidase (PPO), phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) and peroxidase (POD) as well as lignin and suberin, marker for an induction of plant defence mechanisms, in transgenic potatoes will be examined. ...

Investigation of nitrogen efficiency in Solanum tuberosum (Project)

...Four different components are differentiated in respect to nitrogen utilization of plants: (1) absorption, (2) assimilation, (3) translocation, and (4) remobilization. ...In Europe potato culture comprises an area of approximately 1,300,000 ha per year. This research project aims at the establishment of methods which will allow the development of potato genotypes with increased nitrogen efficiency. Special emphasis will be placed on (1) characterization of genetic ressources in regard to different components of nutrient uptake and utilization, (2) investigation of effects of nitrogen deficiency on development and physiology of different genotypes, (3) genetical analysis of nitrogen efficiency as well as (4) development of appropriate screening and selection procedures....

Characterization of metabolizing enzymes and biotransformation of selected test substances in human in-vitro skin models to identify an optimal test system for dermato-toxicological and exposure-related studies (Project)

...This issue is of high importance in Europe, because strict time-limits for animal testing of cosmetic ingredients had been introduced by the 7th amendment of the Cosmetics Directive 76/768/EWG.In this project, the metabolization of a number of test substances will be analyzed in human 3D-skin models, cultured human cells and ex-vivo skin, as well as activities and expression patterns of metabolizing enzymes. ...
