Mechanisms of flowering time control by the novel flowering time genes GNC and GNL (Project)

...This project aims at understanding how flowering is controlled by gibberellin (GA) and cold temperature and how flowering time control is linked to frost tolerance. This is based on our finding that transcription factors of the GNÜLLER family, notably the GA-regulated genes GNC and GNL, delay flowering and at the same time confer frost tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana. ...Using molecular and genetic approaches we now want to examine (1) how GNC/GNL integrate GA- and FLC-dependent signals to control flowering time, (2) whether expression differences of GNC/GNL can explain differences in flowering and frost tolerance in 5 selected Arabidopsis accessions, and (3) whether and how GNC/GNL control flowering time and frost tolerance in crop species. ...

Identification of CYP2F1 and CYP2S1 in human lung tissue (Project)

...Extrahepatic cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYP) play a very important role in chemicals’ activation. CYP2F1 and CYP2S1 are enzymes which play an important role in xenobiotic metabolism in the lung and the skin, respectively. The BfR has developed polyclonal antibodies specifically targeted against human CYP2F1 and CYP2S1 in order to determine these enzymes in human tissues. ...

Degradation and Residue Dynamics of Veterinary Medicines in Soil-Plant Systems (Project)

...For this purpose as well as for other partners we will synthesize various derivatives labelled with 14C- and 13C-isotopes: (1) [U-phenyl-13C]-SDZ; (2) [U-phenyl-13C]-acetyl-SDZ; (3) [U-phenyl-13C]-4-hydroxy-SDZ; (4) [2-Pyrimidyl-14C]-N-acetyl-SDZ; (5) 14C-labelled OH-SDZ. Further derivatives are available from the first part of the project cluster ([2-Pyrimidyl-14C]-SDZ and [2-13C,1-15N]-DIF) and will be provided by external synthetic laboratories (14C-labelled DIF). ...For structural investigation of the bound 13C-labelled residues high resolution NMR after sample solubilisation and CP-MAS NMR spectroscopy of solid samples will be applied....

Hygienic risk of the agricultural use of sewage sludge due to the uptake of human pathogens in crop plants: Research into the uptake of human pathogens by crop plants via soil and water (Project)

...In the frame of the project the survival of Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella enterica, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter sp. in soil after the application of sewage sludge or contaminated irrigation water as well as the attachment, colonisation and proliferation of human pathogens on crop plants will be monitored using cultivation-independent and cultivation-dependent methods. ...The microscopic investigation will be used to follow gfp-marked E. coli and Acinetobacter strains. We will test the hypothesis that the presence of plasmids such as IncP1 or lowGC in these hosts will influence their ability to colonise plants and provide them with a selective advantage. ...Using Illumina sequencing, the influence of sludge on the microbial community composition in soil was analyzed as well as the influence on the abundance of mobile genetic elements and resistance genes in soil. E. coli O157:H7 was also reisolated from soil samples in order to look for mobile genetic elements which can be transferred to E. coli O157:H7. ...

Optimization of parasites-control in grazing cattle (Project)

...The control group consisted of 7 animals and was treated three weeks after turnout with Moxidectin-Depot (Cydectin 10% LA ® 1.0 mg / kg sc at the back of the ear). The TST group consisted of 9 animals and was treated, if necessary individually with Moxidectin (Cydectin1% ® 0.2 mg / kg sc). ...The body weight gain was not significantly different between the groups (multivariate analysis, both p 0.05). The average daily weight gain during the grazing season amounted to 1.009 kg for the control group, 0.991 kg for the TST group and 0.894 kg for the TT group. ...

Kinetics of short-chain and alternative PFAS in humans (Project)

...The focus here is on the so-called long-chain compounds (C8 and more for carboxylic acids, C6 and more for sulfonic acids) because they have extremely long half-lives in humans, in the range of years. ...The aim is therefore to investigate the kinetics of 5 short-chain PFAS (PFBA, PFPeA, PFHxA, PFHpA, PFBS) and 3 alternative PFAS (DONA, GenX, 6:2FTS) in humans in order to obtain data after a single oral application on absorption, plasma half-lives, volumes of distribution and routes of excretion (urine, stool). ...
