Principles and strategies for the procurement of high quality and adaptable forest reproductive material under climate change (Project)
...The increased growth potential contributes to a higher CO2 fixation, while a better quality is prerequisite for a repeated use of wood before it is finally used for energy production (cascade use of wood). ...This program will provide a total of 4,200 plus-trees (Douglas-fir 800, Norway spruce 600, Scots pine 550, larches 450, oaks 900 and Sycamore maple 900) for future breeding activities in Germany. The following working packages will be part of project component 1: WP 1: Coordination of the cooperative and project component 1 WP 2: Establishment of clonal archives WP 3: Concept for new provenance and progeny trials that is essential to realize the breeding strategy WP 4: Establishment of one site of the Douglas-fir progeny trial series WP 5: Concept for seed orchards under consideration of genetic diversity WP 6: Transformation of clonal progeny trials of spruce to seed stands WP 7: Establishment of 4 sites of oak progeny trial WP 8: Procurement of plant material for physological tests on plus-tree grafts....

Collaborative project: Mapping and exploitation of new sources of resistance to tan spot (Pyrenophora tritici-repentis) in wheat - Subproject 1 (Project)
...In the frame of this project, 8 PTR-isolates, which were collected in Germany and Hungary, were classified. Four out of these were classified as PTR race 8, which was the most frequent one. Based on phenotypic data estimated in three years field trials on 4 DH-populations and respective genetic maps (SSRs, DArTS, AFLPs), major QTL for resistance to P. tritici-repentis were identified on chromosomes 1A, 5B and 7B. ...

MIRABEL - Integrated framework for risk and cost/benefit analysis of food allergens (Project)
...The survey will be designed and implemented by partners 1 (ANSES/DSA), 2 (Inra) and 3 (Allergo-Vigilance Network). ...Then, the model will be applied on the data collected during tasks 1 and 2 and will be used to assess the impact on the risk of different management options. This task is under the responsibility of partner 1. The task 4 consists of the cost-benefit analysis for the different stakeholders (food industry, allergic individuals and regulators). ...

Pilot Studies "Nutritional Epidemiology” and “Epidemiology of chronic diseases”, implemented within NFDI4Health (National research data infrastructure on personal health data) (Project)
...Pilot study 5.1.1: Systematic investigation of methodological limitations in the derivation of dietary patterns numerous exploratorily derived dietary patterns in last decades • no comprehensive investigation of methodological constraints, e.g.: • influence of different energy adjustment techniques • different levels of granularity for dietary data • no systematic investigation of simplified dietary patterns, e.g.: • different cut-offs for factor loadings on pattern composition Pilot study 5.1.2: Association of dietary sugar intake and body composition [among participants with genetic predisposition for a high sugar intake] • Association of added or free sugar intakes with development of overweight discussed for many years • European Food Safety Authority (EFSA): update on their "Tolerable upper intake level for dietary sugars“ -> not possible to set a recommendation due to major research gaps • Pooled analyses examining the impact of sugar intake on the development of obesity and non-communicable diseases are desired • Study on sugar intake (e.g. total, added and free sugars) + its main sources (e.g. SSB, juices, sweets) of children, adolescents and adults in Germany and its association with overweight • Biomarker data (e.g. urinary sugar excretion) and genetic factors (e.g. genetic preference for sweet foods) considered, if available...

Genomcs-driven analysis of the wheat/Fusarium pathosystem for healthy food and feed product development (Project)
...The aim of the project is the application of genome based and proteomic methods for (1) the selection for resistance against Fusarium (FHB) and for reduced mycotoxin production, (2) the analyses of the host-pathogen-interaction wheat/fusarium, (3) population and association genetics studies on Fusarium graminearum isolates. ...Studies conducted at the JKI aim at the construction of a high resolution mapping population for a FHB-QTL located on chromosome 2A of Triticum monococcum followed by marker saturation and the identification of candidate genes. ...In 2016 the high-resolution mapping population could be increased to 1991 F2-plants, providing a genetic resolution of 0.025 % recombination. 421 heterozygot recombinant plants and 16 homozygous recombinant plants could be identified for the first QTL-Intervall and 242 heterozygous recombinant plants and 7 homozygous recombinant plants could be selected for the second QTL-Interval. ...

Collaborative project: Research on basic principles for the production of breakfast cereals with reduced energy density enriched in dietary fibre and polyphenols - subproject 1 (Project)
...Frequent consumption of carbohydrate-rich food with a high glycemic index appears to increase the risk for obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other metabolic disorders and diseases, e.g. cardiovascular diseases and certain forms of cancers. ...The main aim of the joint project is to study the scientific background for the application of two novel food processing techniques: (1) high-temperature short-time extrusion (HTST) will be studied to design dietary fibre-rich breakfast cereals with reduced energy density, high contents of bioactive polyphenols and an optimised sensory quality (Work Packages; WPs2,3), (2) high-pressure high-temperature extraction (HPHT) will be investigated to extract dietary fibre and bioactive polyphenols from the by-product of chokeberry juice production (pomace) by using subcritical water, thus avoiding organic solvents (WP1). Furthermore, the optimised extruded products and extracts prepared by both processing methods will be analysed in detail for/used for: (a) changes in the molecular structures of dietary fibre components as influenced by HTST and HPHT processing (WP4), (b) nutritional quality aspects (e.g. contents of dietary fibre, sugars, and polyphenols) (WP1), (c) digestibility of carbohydrates and in vitro bioavailability of polyphenols (WP5), (d) in vivo tests (human intervention study) measuring blood glucose levels and the glycemic index after consumption of selected samples based on the results of the in vitro tests (WP5). ...
