Project
Project code: 2817MDT601
Contract period: 01.05.2020

Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: meat, animal feed, poultry, husbandry techniques, animal husbandry, knowledge transfer, networking
The aim of the project is to test female turkeys on farms to achieve optimum welfare conditions. This should minimize animal misbehavior and in the medium term, eliminate the need to shorten the turkey beaks. Furthermore, all work processes and their application should be tested under practical conditions with regard to profitability. Each work step is recorded in detail, with the focus on labour input and technical parameters. All results are summarized and published for free use as guides with practical instructions, short films and an Excel-based tool called 'farm-specific decision-making tool'. This will help farms to take decisions on this important innovation step.
