Serotype 4b variant (IVb-v1) of Listeria monocytogenes as source of an listeriosis outbreak in Germany
Project
Project code: BfR-BIOS-08-1322-620
Contract period: 01.01.2015
- 31.12.2015
Purpose of research: Applied research
In 2010, Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) isolates of the serotype IVb-v1 were detected as source for a listeriosis outbreak in Germany. To date, IVb-v1 strains have been isolated only from sporadic human infections or food worldwide. Within this project, available outbreak isolates of serotype IVb-v1 were clustered in the population structure of Lm. We, therefore, typed a panel of 81 Lm isolates from a coordinated monitoring program on the prevalence of L. monocytogenes in ready-to-eat foods carried out in 2010 and 2011 in Germany using MLST. IVb-v1 isolates clustered with IVb and IIb isolates, but did not belong to a known clonal complex. Furthermore, isolates were typed by MiSeq sequencing. Sequencing data analysis has not yet been finalized due to failed de novo sequencing of a IVb-v1 isolate. The Genome diversity of IVb-v1 isolates taken from the outbreak and after persistence in the food producing plant as well as their epidemiological potential will be analyzed after de novo assembling of a representative IVb-v1 isolate as reference in the beginning of 2016.
