Indicators for biodiversity in organic and low-input farming systems (BIOBIO)

Collaborative Project

Contract period: 01.03.2009 - 31.08.2012
Budget: 3900000 Euro
Coordinating institution: Research Station Agroscope Location Reckenholz

Organic and low-input farming systems have been shown to benefit farmland biodiversity although a generic indicator to assess these benefits at the European level is lacking. Therefore, BioBio, a European project, aims the selection of biodiversity indicators (e.g. butterflies, plants, etc) for assessing these benefits. The selected indicators will be tested in several case studies across Europe and beyond as well as a sampling design for biodiversity monitoring. The output will be a Handbook for indicator assessment in organic and low-input farming systems.
