Innovative approaches to optimize genetic diversity for sustainable farming systems of the future (INSUSFAR)
Project
Project code: JKI-ZL-08-3184
Contract period: 01.03.2015
- 31.03.2020
Purpose of research: Applied research
The potential of plant breeding innovations for the development of production systems better meeting the sustainability criteria shall be investigated. The plant breeding innovations realized so far shall be described and their role in the agricultural systems’ change management will be determined and assessed. The performance of varieties, lines and populations as well as the genetic changes in heterogeneous and heterozygous populations of inbreeding cereal species (wheat, barley) grown in systems characterized by different input levels and different levels of system specific species diversity will be established and analyzed. JKI's contribution to the project is to provide the winter barley MAGIC population. A main task of JKI is to develop and operate a project database and an information system for long-term breeding research programmes using the results of the preceding projects of AVEQ and AEGRO as well as the EVA II information system.
