Agro Biotech process for the degradation of antibiotic drugs in manure and suitable analytical methodology
Project
Project code: EIP-Agri-THÜ-2017-PGDBBV01
Contract period: 01.01.2017
- 31.12.2019
Budget: 321,385 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: plant production and horticulture, fertilisation, soil, biodiversity
In modern livestock antibiotic agents for the protection of animals are used therapeutically and preventively. The active ingredients used are excreted to a large extent along with transformation products by liquid and solid manure. They contaminate the soil directly after application as fertilizer or indirectly by passing the fermenter of biogas plants (digestate). Thus the antibiotic active substances and their metabolites can reach the groundwater or receiving waters by erosion. In the proposed project a reliable analytical method for the determination of antibiotic substances, in particular metabolites and transformation products within the different matrices digestate, liquid and solid manure will be developed and validated. The innovative analytical method is the necessary condition for the detection and evaluation of degradation processes. Therefor a new 'low-tech' - and 'low cost' - method is developed for degrading antibiotic substances for sustainable use of resources and for improveing agricultural operating economic performance. It will be prepared on a laboratory scale and developed at a small technical scale.
