WASCAL (West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use). Work Package 3.1 Climate and technology impact on the provision of food, feed and fiber from agroecosystems
Project
Project code: keine Angabe
Contract period: 01.10.2012
- 30.04.2016
Purpose of research: Applied research
Agricultural systems and in particular rural households based on subsistence agriculture have been spotted among the most susceptible human groups to climate fluctuations and climate change. Agricultural activities generate about one third of the West African GDP and are responsible of most exports and involve up to 70% of the population. Thus, there is a need to assess the impact of climate variability and future climate change on the production of food, feed and fiber and to evaluate technology options like improvement of genetic resources or soil fertility measures to enhance resilience of agricultural production.
The general objective of the WP 3.1 is the assessment of the impact of climate change and the effect of technological adaptation measures on the provision of food, feed and fiber from key crops in the WASCAL focus regions.
