Budget: 199,933 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: farming practice/activity, farming equipment, plant production and horticulture, pest/disease control

Lack of seasonal labor and weed control are currently the limiting factors in Bavarian organic sugar beet production. The project aims to demonstrate that the use of modern camera, software and sowing technology can significantly reduce the costs of the saisonal labor force. Indeed such systems, once implemented, have the potential to reduce manual labour up to 75%. Thereby the local organic sugar beet production will become more competitive than organic cane sugar from overseas and the Bavarian organic sugar beet production could be greatly expanded. Further the possibility to transfer this technology system to other row crops is provided.
