Structural and functional regeneration of managed tropical rainforests in eastern Africa (Recovery)
Project
Project code: 28I05701
Contract period: 01.10.2023
- 30.09.2026
Budget: 318,323 Euro
Purpose of research: Applied research
Keywords: biological diversity, sustainability, forest restoration
The goal of the project is to gain a better understanding of the structural and functional recovery of rainforests after abandonment of forestry use. In doing so, the project will provide insights for the development of targeted, sustainable and site-specific restoration approaches. In cooperation with local project partners, the project will establish a network of long-term research plots in forest stands along a gradient representing different recovery stages after logging (time-since-logging gradient). The network will serve as a platform for cooperation between the project partners for further research work and thus effectively contribute to capacity building.
