The aim of the protein crop strategy is to promote the cultivation and use of local protein-rich legumes (Leguminosae). It focuses on the ecosystem services of legumes for soil, climate and biodiversity and their contribution to boosting the supply of protein for humans and animals from local production. The competitive position of legumes should be strengthened by the protein crop strategy. To this end, research and development projects as well as measures for technology and knowledge transfer are going to be promoted.
